The Maine Road Regeneration Area Background

The development site was formerly Maine Road Stadium (the ground of Manchester City Football Club, 1923-2004), which borders the Wards of Moss Side and Rusholme in Central Manchester. Since the club’s relocation to the City of Manchester Stadium in 2004, the Maine Road site has become subject to a major housing regeneration programme.

There will be approximately 350 new properties on the site. This new housing is made up of three and four bed roomed houses (with gardens and parking facilities), and one, two and three bed roomed apartments (with parking). A new road running through the site will connect Yew Tree Road and Maine Road and a brand new Roman Catholic Primary School opened on site in September 2009.

The Maine Road development overall is being delivered by a partnership that includes Lowry Homes, local residents, Manchester City Council and other stakeholders. It is managed by a project board and overseen by the Maine Road Steering Group.

The site is located on land between Maine Road, Thornton Road, Yew Tree Road and Claremont Road in Moss Side, South Manchester. The main site access is on Maine Road, off Lloyd Street South.
